What Does Our Comprehensive Eye Exam Include?

Our comprehensive eye exam goes beyond checking for visual acuity and includes a range of tests designed to assess the overall health of your eyes. Here's what you can expect during your eye exam:

  1. Patient History & Vision Assessment
We start by reviewing your medical and vision history to identify any potential risk factors. We'll ask about any vision concerns, family history, and lifestyle factors that could affect your eye health.

  2. Visual Acuity Test
This is the familiar eye chart test that measures how well you can see at various distances. It helps us determine if you need prescription glasses or an update to your current prescription.

  3. Digital Refraction Test
Using the latest advancements in eyecare, we measure the precise prescription needed for your eyeglasses or contact lenses. This helps ensure you achieve the clearest vision possible through digital exams vs. antiquated manual methods in the past. a phoropter, we measure the precise prescription needed for your eyeglasses or contact lenses. 4. Slit Lamp Exam
This exam uses a special microscope to examine the health of the eye's front structures, including the cornea, iris, and lens. It allows us to detect conditions like dry eye disease, cataracts, glaucoma, and corneal infections.

  5. Intraocular Pressure Measurement (Tonometry)
By measuring the pressure inside your eyes, we can screen for glaucoma—a leading cause of irriversable blindness that often has no symptoms until significant damage is done.

  6. Retinal Imaging with Optomap
We use Optomap ultra-widefield retinal imaging to capture detailed, high-resolution images of your retina. This advanced technology provides a broad view of your retina, helping us detect eye diseases early, such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal detachments.

At the end of your eye exam, your doctor will provide a glasses prescription that is tailored to your ocular and vocational needs.

What is a Comprehensive Exam?

A comprehensive eye exam is more than just checking your vision—it’s a key part of preventive healthcare. Many eye diseases, like glaucoma and macular degeneration, develop silently without early symptoms. Regular exams help detect these issues early, protecting your vision before problems arise. They also reveal signs of overall health conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure. By staying proactive, you can preserve your sight and overall well-being for years to come.

Out with the Old, In with the New!

We are proud to provide you with the latest technology eye care has to offer to ensure we give the most precise vision exams and medically thorough retinal exams. All of our clinics are equipped with digital refractive tests rather than antiquated and outdated equipment. We also perform retinal imaging through Optomap on all patients along with fundus autofluorescence that provides an in-depth image of the eye that otherwise would not be seen with the naked eye. This helps you detect diseases earlier than traditional methods.

When Should I Get an Exam?

Even if you feel that you see well, you must get an annual eye exam to ensure the overall health of the eye and quality of tear film.

  • Patients with diabetes are recommended to have an exam every 6 months.

  • Children must get an exam at 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, and every year after 6 years old.

I've Had LASIK, Do You Still Need an Eye Exam?

Absolutely! LASIK is never 100% perfect, and your doctor needs to ensure that the back of your eye and your cornea are preserved year after year to keep your vision and eyes healthy in their entirety!
